Summer Concert Series Officially Underway

Hundreds of fans began lining the exterior of the City Market just after 6:00 anticipating the beginning of the Summer concert series in the City Market. While they waited for the gates to open at 7:30, many looked up to the cloudy sky, wondering if it would begin raining.

However once Kansas City's own Pomeroy took the stage at around 8:30, their worries soon dissipated. Pomeroy, whose sound borrows from many different genres includes, rock, rap and reggae, delivered a blistering six song set.

Along with the music the group kept the crowd energized with two pop-locking breakdancers who performed during several songs. The set was highlighted by a remake of The Charlie Daniels Band's "The Devil went down to Georgia" and Pomeroy's hit "Roboflow." Another highlight came just to the right of the stage when The Used's Bert McCracken, came out to wave to the crowd in the middle of the set.

It was almost a toss-up whether the crowd was more anxious to see The Used or The All-American Rejects. It was also a toss-up whether the crowd wanted to see The Used, or just Bert McCracken, who gained notoriety for his public romance with Kelly Osbourne on MTV's "The Osbournes."

When The Used hit the stage just after 9:30, McCracken threw up his arms and screamed as the crowd went wild. Throughout their set, McCracken talked about growing up in Provo, Utah and how music was all that mattered to him.

He proved it as the band grinded out tunes from their self-titled album including the hard-rocking "Box of Sharp Objects" and their hit "The Taste of Ink." ending with their new single "Blue and Yellow" which is as close to a ballad as The Used gets.

The All-American Rejects took the stage around 10:30 and a few songs into their set apologized to anyone who had seen them when they played at The Hurricane, saying they really sucked back then.
The crowd, which was comprised mainly of those who weren't old enough to get into the Hurricane were only concerned about the present. After a somewhat brief set, lead singer Tyson Ritter addressed the crowd again.

"We're leaving now," he joked using Chris Farley's trademarks finger quotes.

A few minutes later the organ beginning to their hit "Swing, Swing" came through the Marshall stacks as the crowd began screaming. Throughout most of the song, the crowd was evening drowning out Ritter's singing. Appropriately, The All American Rejects ended the night with "The Last Song"

A half an hour later, the All-American Rejects were in the VIP room at Kabal meeting fans and signing autographs. Both the concert and the after party were sponsored by 96.5 The Buzz as part of the "Buzz Under the Stars" series. The next concert also promises youth with Good Charlotte, New Found Glory and MxPx performing in the City Market on Wednesday May 21.
